It is the ephod, a vestment adorning the priestly figure with threads of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, intricately intertwined with fine linen. Within the fabric of this sacred attire, two shoulder straps extend, bearing the weight of responsibility, while a breastplate, crafted with equal artistry, adorns the chest. This breastplate, known as the breastplate of judgment, is more than mere ornamentation; it is a shield against the arrows of accusation and a fortress guarding the sanctity of the heart. For in the tumult of mortal existence, where shadows of doubt and whispers of slander loom, it is imperative to safeguard not only one's actions but also the very wellspring of thoughts and intentions.

In the weaving of this vestige, each thread bears significance, each stitch a testament to the noble calling of the priesthood. For it is not enough to merely adorn oneself with precious metals and vibrant hues; the true essence lies in the extraction of noble thoughts, the untangling of darkness, and the weaving of purity and righteousness.

 

이 흔적의 직조에는 실 하나하나가 의미를 지니고 있으며, 한 땀 한 땀이 제사장의 고귀한 소명에 대한 증거입니다. 귀금속과 생생한 색채로 자신을 장식하는 것만으로는 충분하지 않으며, 진정한 본질은 고귀한 생각을 추출하고 어둠을 풀고 순결과 의로움을 엮어내는 데 있습니다.

In the heart of the sacred vestments adorning the priestly lineage, lies the ruling breastplate, adorned with precious gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. A marvel to behold, it reflects different hues of light depending on one's perspective, reminding us to see Israel as a radiant jewel amidst the turmoil of our times. In the face of rampant anti-Semitism, it is imperative to gaze upon Israel with a noble heart, for it is then that the light of heaven shines brightest, and the gates of divine favor swing open.

 

제사장의 혈통을 상징하는 성스러운 예복의 중심에는 이스라엘 열두 지파를 상징하는 진귀한 보석으로 장식된 흉패가 자리하고 있습니다. 보는 이의 관점에 따라 다양한 빛깔의 보석을 반사하는 경이로움으로, 시대의 혼란 속에서 이스라엘을 빛나는 보석으로 바라보게 합니다. 만연한 반유대주의에 맞서 고귀한 마음으로 이스라엘을 바라볼 때 하늘의 빛이 가장 밝게 빛나고 하나님의 은총의 문이 열리기 때문입니다.

 

Embedded within this breastplate are the urim and the tumim, symbols of light and completeness, resting over the heart of the chosen priest as he enters the presence of the Almighty. To judge with the criteria of urim and tumim is to illuminate the darkness with divine clarity, to act as children of the light, and to proclaim the truth that sets hearts free. For in the beginning, when God spoke, "Let there be light," the very fabric of creation unfolded.

Adorning the bottom of the breastplate are pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, interspersed with golden bells, signaling the priest's presence in the Holy of Holies with their melodious chime. The pomegranate, symbolizing awakening, serves as a reminder of spiritual vigilance and readiness.

 

흉패 아래에는 청색, 보라색, 주홍색 석류가 장식되어 있으며, 금 방울들이 있어 종소리와 함께 제사장이 지성소에 있음을 알립니다. 깨어남을 상징하는 석류는 영적 경계와 준비를 상기시키는 역할을 합니다.

 

Moreover, an ornament of pure gold, engraved with the words "Set apart for Adonai," serves as a seal of sanctification, affirming Israel's eternal covenant with the Divine. Amidst the tumult of history and the shadow of anti-Semitic sentiment, it is our solemn duty to declare, "Israel belongs to God," for it is through this proclamation that divine judgment is confirmed.

 

또한 "주님께 구별하라"는 글귀가 새겨진 순금 장식은 이스라엘이 하나님과 맺은 영원한 언약을 확인하는 성결의 인장 역할을 합니다. 역사의 소용돌이와 반유대주의 정서의 그림자 속에서 "이스라엘은 하나님의 것"이라고 선언하는 것은 우리의 엄숙한 의무입니다. 이 선언을 통해 하나님의 판결이 확정되기 때문입니다.

 

Fastened to the turban of the high priest with a blue cord, this declaration becomes a visible testament to Israel's consecration unto the Lord. As the church endeavors to restore Israel to its rightful identity as a kingdom of priests, this proclamation becomes all the more significant.

 

대제사장의 관에 청색 실로 묶인 이 선언은 이스라엘이 주님께 헌신했음을 보여주는 가시적인 증거가 됩니다. 교회가 제사장 왕국으로서 이스라엘의 정당한 정체성을 회복하기 위해 노력함에 따라 이 선언은 더욱 중요해졌습니다.

 

In addition to the majestic breastplate, the priestly garments also include tunics of fine linen and linen shorts, covering the bare flesh of Aaron's sons as they minister in the tent of meeting and approach the altar in the Holy Place. Through these garments, the mission of the Church of the Nations is manifested—to cover the shame of Israel and proclaim its royal priesthood, its holy nationhood, and its sacred status as a people set apart for God's divine purposes. Thus clothed, Israel is reminded of its exalted calling, and the world bears witness to the eternal covenant between God and His chosen people.
