Fill the lamp with pure oil

And you shall command[Tetzaveh] the children of Israel

that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light,

to cause the lamp to burn continually. (Exodus 27:20)

 

“너는 이스라엘 자손에게 명하여, 

올리브를 찧어서 짜낸 깨끗한 기름을 가져다가 등불을 켜게 하되,

그 등불은 늘 켜 두어라. 출애굽기 27:20

 

In last week’s Torah reading, Terumah, God instructed Moses and the Israelites to construct a Tabernacle (Mishkan) in the wilderness.

 

지난주 토라 읽기인 테루마에서 하나님은 모세와 이스라엘 백성에게 광야에 성막(미쉬칸)을 지으라고 지시하셨습니다.

 

This week, God commands them to bring pure olive oil for the lamp, and to create holy garments for the priests (cohanim).

 

이번 주에 하나님께서는 등잔을 위해 순수한 올리브유를 가져오고 제사장(코하님)을 위해 거룩한 옷을 만들라고 명령하십니다.

In the sacred narrative of the Scriptures, amidst the directives given to the children of Israel, there lies a profound injunction: keep a lamp burning continually.

 

성경의 이야기 속에는 이스라엘 자손에게 주어진 명령 가운데 다음과 같은 심오한 명령이 있습니다: 등불이 계속 켜져 있게 하라.

 

For within this commandment lies a profound invitation — an invitation to journey beyond the confines of self-interest and into the sacred realms of prayer, purification, and divine illumination.

 

이 명령에는 이기심의 한계를 넘어 기도와 정화와 거룩한 빛의 영역으로 오라는 초대가 담겨 있습니다.

 

It is a journey likened to that of a soldier, enlisted not in earthly battles but in the eternal warfare of the soul. Just as the soldier relinquishes the entanglements of worldly affairs to please the one who called him, so too are we called to surrender our selves to God's will, to become vessels through which the divine light may shine forth.

 

이 여정은 지상의 전투가 아닌 영원한 영혼의 전쟁에 참여하는 군인의 여정에 비유할 수 있습니다. 군인이 자신을 부르신 분을 기쁘게 하기 위해 세상 일의 매임을 포기하는 것처럼, 우리도 하나님  뜻에 자신을 굴복하고 거룩한 빛을 비출 수 있는 그릇이 되라는 부름을 받았습니다.

 

The preparation of the pure oil, meticulously pressed from olives, becomes a metaphor for the purification of the soul. Just as the impurities are painstakingly removed from the oil, so too must we undergo a process of spiritual refinement, casting off the dross of ego and desire to attain a state of purity and receptivity to the divine.

 

올리브에서 정성스럽게 압착한 순수한 기름을 만드는 과정은 영혼의 정화에 대한 은유가 됩니다. 기름에서 불순물을 공들여 제거하는 것처럼, 우리도 영적인 정제를 거쳐 자아의 찌꺼기와 욕망을 버리고 순수함과 거룩함을 받아들이는 상태에 도달해야 합니다.

 

In the garden of Gethsemane, Yeshua exemplified this sacred journey, as drops of sweat mingled with drops of blood, symbolizing the agony of surrender and preparation. It is here, in this sacred space of prayer, that the altar of the cross is erected, paving the way for God's fire to descend and illuminate the path of salvation.

 

겟세마네 동산에서 예수님은 땀방울과 피방울이 섞인 채 항복과 십자가를 질 준비를 상징하는 이 성스러운 여정의 모범을 보여 주셨습니다. 이 기도의 공간에서 십자가 제단이 세워져 하나님의 불이 내려와 구원의 길을 비추는 길을 닦았습니다.

 

And so, as we heed the call to prayer, we are reminded of our sacred duty to tend the lamp of divine presence, to keep the flame burning continuously within our hearts. For just as Aaron and his sons tended the lamp before the Lord, so too are we called to maintain the vigil of prayer, illuminating the path of righteousness and unity.

 

따라서 기도로의 부르심에 귀를 기울일 때, 우리는 임재의 등불을 돌보고 우리 마음속에 불꽃이 계속 타오르도록 하는 거룩한 의무를 상기하게 됩니다. 아론과 그의 아들들이 주님 앞에서 등불을 돌보았던 것처럼, 우리도 깨어서 기도하며 의와 연합의 길을 밝히라는 부름을 받았습니다.

 

As the light of the lamp illuminates the Table of Showbread, so too does the church shine its light upon the twelve tribes of Israel, guiding them towards a unity grounded in the eternal truth of the Word. And in this sacred endeavor, we find ourselves transformed, our prayers ascending as fragrant incense before the throne of grace, preparing the way for God's fire to descend and consume all that is impure.

 

등불의 빛이 진설병을 비추듯, 교회도 이스라엘 열두 지파를 향해 빛을 비추며 말씀의 영원한 진리에 기초한 일치를 향해 그들을 인도합니다. 그리고 이 거룩한 노력 속에서 우리는 변화되고, 우리의 기도가 은혜의 보좌 앞에 향기로운 향으로 올라가 하나님의 불이 내려와 불순한 모든 것을 소멸할 수 있는 길을 준비합니다.

Prayer, likened to filling a bottle with oil, becomes not only a preparatory act but also a transformative journey of the soul. As we anticipate the unfolding of divine providence, we find ourselves amidst the throes of spiritual tension and warfare, a crucible in which our faith is tested and refined. Yet, in the midst of this turmoil, there is a grace and joy that transcends our circumstances, an anointing born out of communion with the Lord.

 

병에 기름을 채우는 것에 비유되는 기도는 준비 행위일 뿐만 아니라 영혼을 변화시키는 여정이기도 합니다. 하나님의 섭리가 펼쳐질 것을 기대하면서 우리는 영적 긴장과 전쟁의 소용돌이 속에서 우리의 믿음을 시험하고 연단하는 도가니 속에 놓여 있습니다. 그러나 이러한 혼란 속에서도 우리의 상황을 초월하는 은혜와 기쁨, 즉 주님과의 교제에서 비롯된 기름부음이 있습니다.

 

In the sacred duty of tending the lamp, the priest assumes the role of a vigilant guardian, ensuring that the light remains aligned in its divine purpose. Much like a military commander ordering and arranging battle lines, the priest meticulously organizes the spiritual landscape, disposing of impurities and safeguarding the sacred flame from errant sparks.

 

제사장은 등불을 돌보는 신성한 의무를 수행하면서 빛이 거룩한 목적에 맞게 정렬되도록 경계하는 수호자의 역할을 맡습니다. 군 지휘관이 전선을 지휘하고 배치하는 것처럼 제사장은 불순물을 처리하고 잘못된 불꽃으로부터 신성한 불꽃을 보호하는 등 영적 환경을 세심하게 정리합니다.

 

But the priest does not emerge in isolation; rather, they are established by the community, woven into the fabric of collective worship and intercession. In a parallel manner, the church of the nations is called to clothe Israel with garments of dignity and splendor, blessing them to fulfill their priestly duties before the nations.

 

그러나 제사장은 고립된 채로 등장하는 것이 아니라 공동체에 의해 세워지며, 공동의 예배와 중보기도의 구조로 엮여 있습니다. 이와 유사하게 열방의 교회는 이스라엘에게 위엄과 영화의 옷을 입혀 열방 앞에서 제사장의 직무를 완수하도록 축복하라는 부름을 받았습니다.

 

As craftsmen endowed with the spirit of wisdom, we are called to fashion garments that reflect the glory of divine service, adorning Israel with a new identity. In this sacred act of clothing, the church becomes the bride of Yeshua, comforting their hearts, protecting their thoughts, and building lives in a manner that exudes beauty and grace.

 

지혜의 영을 받은 장인으로서 우리는 거룩한 봉사의 영광을 반영하는 의복을 만들어 새로운 정체성으로 이스라엘을 장식하도록 부름받았습니다. 이 옷을 입히는 행위를 통해 교회는 예슈아의 신부가 되어 그들의 마음을 위로하고, 그들의 생각을 보호하며, 아름다움과 은혜를 발산하는 방식으로 삶을 구축합니다.

 

Ultimately, as we embrace our role as guardians of the divine flame, let us not falter in our vigilance. For it is through prayer, purification, and the meticulous alignment of our hearts and minds that we prepare the way for the divine fire to descend, illuminating the way to do something new for Israel.

 

궁극적으로 거룩한 불꽃의 수호자로서 우리의 역할을 받아들일 때, 경계를 늦추지 맙시다. 기도와 정화, 그리고 마음과 생각을 세심하게 정렬함으로써 거룩한 불이 내려와 이스라엘을 위한 새 일을 할 수 있는 길을 밝힐 준비를 할 수 있기 때문입니다.
